Brees description

The name chartreux was chosen already in the 17th century. The chartreux is a very old French cat breed. It has been famous for its grey-blue colour and wooly coat with rich undercoat, which covers a rather muscular body. In comparison with the body the paws look rather small. The head is broad, trapezium form, with strong cheeks. The ears are high set and medium large. The straight nose with a small hollow between the eyes finishes a small muzzle. The breed is recognized in blue colour only and the colour of their rounded eyes is gold or copper. The first chartreux were brought to America in the 70s of the 20th century, so the Americans have one of the purest blood lines.

Breeders tried very hard to keep the breed till nowadays. And the most impressive is that the present chartreux cats perfectly fit to the type 100 years ago. The ideal present chartreux is perfectly identical to the one from the beginning of the 20th century.

THE CHARTREUX TEMPER:

The temper of the chartreux breed is gentle, calm. It's a non-demanding cat, devoted to its master. It does not have any travelling problems. It's more quiet than most other cats. Lots of them even do not meow, just pur., the other have got quiet high voices, which they use very seldom. Their temper is very relaxed. Usually they are very tolerant due to other animals and children. If there is a conflict they rather withdraw. They can adapt easily. The blue French cats adore their family members and show them their affection. They have a gentle temper and quickly respond to praise or blame. They do not need any special care. When washed it takes quite long to get the fur perfectly wet as it is very thick and it repulses water.
